Item
Items are a mechanic in Predecessor which allow players to upgrade their heroes in-game by increasing their stats or incorporating active and passive abilities into their hero's build.
Every hero has a Potion slot, a Vision slot, a Crest slot and 5 slots for other items. The Potion slot is taken by either Refillable Potion or, if you started the game as a Jungler, by Hunt that later upgrades into Wild Hunt. The Vision slot is taken by either the Stealth Ward or the Sonar Drone if you play as Wraith. The Stealth Ward can be replaced by Sentry at the shop for no cost. The Crest slot is taken by a Crest of player's choice (see below).
The remaining 6 slots are for the rest of the items, that are purchased with Gold. After purchase, Items can be refunded for 70% of their cost. Buying and selling items can only be done while a Hero is standing in their team's spawn point or while the Hero is waiting to respawn after dying. Players' builds mostly consist of Tier III items, which are built by combining Tier I and Tier II items, which serve as components. Every item gives your Hero certain stats, while Tier III and some Tier II items have powerful passives, which further enhance your Hero's capabilities. If multiple items have the same type of passive effect, the effect WILL NOT stack with other items who also provide that effect. Players cannot buy multiple copies of Tier III items.
Descriptions
Crests (Starter Items)
Predecessor has a total of eight Crests available to choose at the start of each match. The type of crest you select should ideally relate to your hero's abilities and planned build. Most Crests, with the exception of Consort Crest and Guardian Crest are upgraded by killing Minions and dealing damage to enemy Heroes. Consort and Guardian crests are upgraded by consuming charges that are granted every 20 seconds, by dealing damage to enemies. Crests can be upgraded twice, returning to base after upgrading the crest for the second time will provide the player with a choice between three Tier III crests, each of them granting the Hero a unique Active ability.
Consumables
Every Hero has a Potion slot and a Vision slot. Tonics are purchased from the shop for 650 gold, they are consumed instantly and provide the hero with a temporary buff to their Stats.
Tier I Items
Tier I items are the lowest form of item in Predecessor, they provide a small stat bonus without any additional effects.
Tier II Items
Tier II items are the middle ground in Predecessor, some of them provide passive effects that scale into their respective Tier III items, but mostly these items are just an upgraded version of their Tier I counterparts.
Tier III Items
Tier III items are the best items available to buy in the shop. Each Tier III item has at minimum one unique passive, with many having two, and a few even having three. These passive effects are some of the strongest modifiers available in Predecessor and creating a unique and effective combination is key to success.
